Jamie’s Italian, the casual dining chain spearheaded by Jamie Oliver, has become the first business from the eating and drinking-out sector to become a member of ACCELERATE 250, the group being championed by Lord Young and Sir Terry Leahy that is searching for Britain’s most exciting fast-growth businesses.

The 32-strong chain was named in the first 50 members of ACCELERATE 250, which represents the core of Britain’s “vital six per-cent”, the businesses that are expanding exponentially to create more than half of all new UK jobs.

The group will all meet for the first time at ACCELERATE 2013 in Liverpool on 27 June, where members will be addressed by business leaders as part of an exclusive session.

Organiser Liverpool Vision has announced it will be unveiling the full membership at a rate of 50 a week.

Members announced today include alternative finance pioneers Funding Circle; luxury drinks manufacturer Fever Tree; national restaurant chain Jamie’s Italian; and Neon Play, a mobile games producer with over 42 million app downloads.

The group will be working closely with one another to address the key issues and shared challenges that face all growing businesses, meeting for a series of interactive discussions and debates.

Leahy, former Tesco chief executive, said: “It’s our belief that Britain’s prosperity in the 21st century global economy is going to be built on the success of high-potential, fast-growth businesses. That is why, this coming June, we will be assembling a new group of Britain’s brightest and best businesses to put them at the heart of the nation’s economic renaissance.

“It is our ambition that the 27 June will be just the start of the journey that sees the ACCELERATE 250 become the nucleus of Britain’s future high-growth economic success.”
