Glenmorangie is linking with Jack Daniel's owner Brown-Forman Corporation in a bid to increase exports. The Kentucky company, which also owns Southern Comfort and Fetzer wines, will take up to a 10% of the voting rights in what is the last independent distiller of single malt Scotch whiskies.

Brown-Forman is understood to have no intention of launching a bid for the company. It has been distributing Glenmorangie's whiskies in the US for the past nine years, managing to lift sales from 3,000 to 48,000 cases a year. Glenmorangie's brands include Glen Moray, Martins and Highland Queen.
