InBev, the brewer of Stella Artois and Beck’s, saw UK volumes fall by 10.7% in the second quarter of the year. The company said that its global brand volumes were up 2.7% year-on-year, with volume growth for Brahma, its Brazilian lager brand, and Beck’s being partially offset by the “weak performance” of Stella in the UK during April, May and June. The group said that Western European volume sales during the quarter fell by 4% to Eu996m (£657m) from Eu1.01bn in 2006. The company admitted that turning around its performance in the UK would take time. Felipe Dutra, chief financial officer at InBev, said: “This is not going to change dramatically in the short term. The UK is a very tough market.”
