Matt Hermer, the founder of Ignite Group, the owner of the Bumpkin, Eclipse and Boujis brands, has stepped down as chairman of La Bottega, the London-based chain of upmarket Italian delicatessens, M&C understands.

Hermer joined the group’s board in 2014, following a £5m management buyout of the then six-strong group by Pembroke, the venture capital trust, whose investors include Sir Charles Dunstone and Lord Wolfson.

The group has since disposed of two sites, including its unit on Regent Street.

Pembroke made an initial investment of £960k in new equity in business and provided £1m of mezzanine debt.

It said that the investment would be used to provide expansion capital to open multiple new sites across selected neighbourhoods in London.

The chain was founded in Chelsea in 2005 by husband and wife Bepi and Roberta Augustin.
