Sussex brewer and pub operator Harveys is to re-open the Old Dunnings Mill in East Grinstead next week as the second of its new managed pubs.

The site will re-open on 13 October, two weeks after the company took it back from eight-strong multiple operator Whiting & Hammond after its 10-year lease came to an end.

Earlier this year, Harveys set up a new subsidiary – Sussex Hospitality Services Ltd – to accommodate the managed pub business which, it said, will eventually run as many as half of its 48 pubs.

The company’s chairman Hamish Elder told M&C Report that the new strategy was being driven by government plans to introduce a statutory code and adjudicator for the pub sector, and the additional compliance costs that will cause.

Harveys other managed site is The Lamb in Eastbourne.
