Former Gordon Ramsay protégée Angela Hartnett is to take over the restaurant at London’s Whitechapel Gallery. Hartnett and Diego Cardoso, her head chef at Murano, have teamed up with caterers Smart Hospitality, who will operate the dining room at the 110-year-old East End gallery. It will reopen on January 15, with a menu that will change daily and focus on British ingredients. The restored gallery reopened to the public in 2009, with City caterer Vacherin providing dining at the Gallery Dining Room under the direction of Maria Elia, who was previously head chef at Delfina Restaurant. In October of last year Hartnett bought Munaro from her mentor Ramsay, becoming sole owner of the restaurant she oversaw the launch of in 2008, effectively going it alone after 15 years.
