Harris + Hoole, the coffee chop joint venture from Tesco and Taylor St Barista, has strengthened its management team with the appointment of a chief operating officer and finance director.

The chain, which opened it first site last month in Amersham and has sites lined up in Ruislip and Uxbridge, has appointed former SSP operations director Peter Davies as chief operating officer and Eleni Savva, who heads up the group management reporting team at Tesco, as finance director.

The appointments, which follow that of Amanda Smyth, former HR executive at Domino’s as HR Director, comes as the group is in talks with Zolfo Cooper to buy 10 to 15 Clinton Cards stores out of administration in order to convert them to format described as “an artisan high quality coffee venture”.

Taylor St, which was founded in 2006 by brothers Andrew and Nick Tolley with their sister Laura, currently operates six sites spread across the capital - Canary Wharf Bank, Mayfair, Liverpool St, Richmond, Shoreditch - plus a further outlet in Brighton.

Toolley said that Harris + Hoole was a “long term play” by Tesco to test the coffee-on-the-go market however, the stores will not carry any Tesco branding and will be operated by Taylor Street.
