MCA is once again teaming up with leading advisory firm AlixPartners to identify the top 50 private firms with the fastest-growing profits in the UK eating and drinking-out sector.

The inaugural AlixPartners Growth Company Index, launched in April 2012, saw French brasserie brand Côte top the annual index and claim the Fastest Growing Profits Company prize. The business was subsequently acquired in a c£100m deal by CBPE in 2013 and last year changed hands again when BC Partners paid c250m to own the fast-growing group.

Last year licensed all-day café concept The Breakfast Club, which was launched in London’s Soho in 2005 by Jonathan Arana-Morton and his sister-in-law Alison Rooney, topped the list of the fastest-growing companies in the UK’s eating and drinking-out market. The highly-regarded company generated a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 147.4% – as measured over three sets of annual accounts. It took top spot ahead of Krispy Kreme (145.7%) and BrewDog (138%).

AlixPartners managing director Paul Hemming said: “We are pleased to once again be partnering MCA to identify the best companies and concepts in the UK, as determined by sustained profit growth. ”

Last year’s index, again highlighted that a new establishment is emerging with the likes of BrewDog, Bill’s, Loungers, Hawksmoor, Be At One and Leon cementing their places. But the presence of big businesses such as Prezzo, Azzurri Group, TGI Fridays and Pret showed it is a list of all manner of eating and drinking-out businesses.

Today, we begin identifying the new profit-growth stars, and look forward to updating the market in March. If your company has three years’ audited accounts and turnover in excess of £3m, then please get in touch before the end of January to be included. Contact: mark.wingett@mca-insight.com
