Gaucho, the Argentinean steakhouse concept led by Zeev Godik, has promoted Tracey Matthews from group HR director to managing director, after the departure of Martin Williams, M&C Report understands.

Williams has stepped down from the Intermediate Capital Group-backed company after over 10 years as managing director. It is thought he is exploring further opportunities in the sector.

Matthews joined Gaucho in 2000, firstly running restaurants before going on to create its HR department.

The group has also promoted Ross Butler to the roll of director of international operation to explore opportunities for its eponymous brand and casual-dining format CAU overseas.

The departure of Williams follows that of CAU managing director and Gaucho finance director Charlie McLean last year. Graham Hall, formerly of All Star Leisure, is overseeing the day-to-day running of CAU, Gary Mann, Gaucho’s former head of finance, stepped up as finance director.

The group currently operates 15 restaurants in the UK, plus one in Dubai under its core brand, plus five under its CAU concept, including one in Holland. Last year, it acquired a stake in the Sucre restaurant in Buenos Aires.

It has further openings lined up in Kingston and Bristol for CAU.
