David Elphick, the former Nexum Leisure executive, has been appointed as managing director of Jongleurs, the comedy club operator.
Elphick, who earlier this year founded Momo Leisure with Jez King as a vehicle to open a Jongleurs franchise in Nottingham, will assume day-to-day control of the operation from founder, Maria Kempinska, in November.
As managing director of Jongleurs Comedy Ltd, Elphick will oversee 17 venues nationwide that are currently providing Jongleurs comedy, with a guiding hand on expansion.
The news comes on the back of the announcement that Jongleurs received £2m in funding from private equity group, Ingenious Media, as well as agreeing a tie-up with Luminar to bring the brand to a number of their sites.
Jongleurs was part of Regent Inns. Kempinska, founder of the brand, took back control when Regent, which also operates Walkabout, was the subject of a pre-pack administration last year – it emerged as Intertain and rebranded its comedy clubs at Highlight.
Elphick will also continue to work with Poppleston Allen, the firm of licensing solicitors, as a training consultant.
