Barry Hirst, co-founder of Cubitt House, is to launch a new “butcher & grill” concept called Boxcar in Marylebone, MCA understands.

Launching in Portman Village, the new venture will be a neighbourhood butcher, café & evening steak house.

The company said: “We’ll be sourcing a premium selection of locally-reared produce from independent British farms. Our ethos revolves around helping to revive traditional butchery techniques and giving our customers access to the best seasonal produce. Our butcher store will drive our daily food offering, which will feature grilled steak & chips, burgers & roast pork rolls, all straight from farm to fork.”

Hirst co-founded Cubitt House, the London-based gastropub operator with Stefan Turnbull in 2005.

They sold a majority stake in the business to a consortium of private investors, led by Manjit Dale, founding partner of TDR Capital, at the end of 2015.
