Peking Duck, Britain’s favourite Chinese dish, is back on the menu in London’s Chinatown after a climbdown by health and safety officers from Westminster Council. Ten restaurants in Soho had to stop serving Peking Duck after officials enforced strict EU regulations controlling traditional ovens which did not meet safety standards on carbon monoxide emissions. Celebrity chef Ken Hom described the ban as absurd, but now the council has relented and relaxed the rules, although modifications may still be needed to some ovens along with better ventilation.
