Costa is to launch a new generation self-serve machine under its Costa Express brand into the commercial offices sector, which it believes will help double its c3,000-strong estate over the next three years, M&C Report has learnt.

The company is set to install the machine into 25 office locations across London over the next month as it further grows its market share in the UK’s self-serve coffee bar sector.

Rob Gower, corporate sales director for Costa, told M&C Report, that the new machines would have a larger footprint, a more subtle design and interactive screens.

The new machine will not be used in transport hubs, which will continue to be served by the group’s smaller footprint devices.

Whitbread announced the acquisition of Coffee Nation, the vending machine operator, for £59.5m, in March 2011, launching Costa Express on the back of the acquisition.

At the time, Costa said it would use the purchase of Coffee Nation to develop Costa Express and was targeting 3,000 bars across the UK within five years, which would quadruple its profit contribution.
