Charles Wells, the Bedford-based brewer and pub operator, is to open its eighth site in France under its John Bull Pub Company arm in mid-June. The site, its first in Lyon, was formerly a jazz bar and is currently undergoing a refurbishment to open as the King Arthur. Charles Wells head of PR Kate Hempsall said: “The King Arthur retains the quirky nature of all the John Bull managed pubs and will reinforce the proposition that the pubs provide a ‘Real Taste of England’. “Staff are being recruited for the site and the company, as a whole, is continuing its search for bi-lingual managers and assistant managers to help drive its expansion plans.” Charles Wells aims to grow its John Bull estate to 15 sites by the end of 2015. It currently runs two in Toulouse, Montpellier and Bordeaux, and one in Paris. Sales in the division increased 41.7% in its most recent account for the year to 1 October 2011.
