Carluccio’s, the all-day Italian café chain led by Simon Kossoff, has become the fifth restaurant group to join Hammerson’s £20m leisure extension of Silverburn, its flagship regional out-of-town shopping centre in Glasgow.

Opening in October this year, the 76-strong group Carluccio’s has secured a 3,650sq ft unit situated in the Winter Garden, in the heart of the leisure complex, alongside the new 14-screen Cineworld cinema.

The company, which hopes to open 10 sites in its current financial year, will open in Harrogate this spring.

The group has already lined up a number of new openings including a site at Heathrow’s Terminal 4, its second in Birmingham and its first in Shrewsbury.

Kossoff, Carluccio’s chief executive said: “We are very excited about the opening of Carluccio’s in Silverburn later this year and believe that the leisure extension and new cinema will act as a great draw to the centre. We opened our first Carluccio’s on Glasgow’s Nile Street some years back to much success and hope that our second venture in the city will prove as successful as our first.”

Chris Daly, catering leasing executive at Hammerson, said: “Carluccio’s is a great brand, adding prestige to our already strong line up of restaurants planned for the leisure extension. This announcement highlights the pull of Silverburn as a destination for brands not only because of the great catchment, but the complete offer it provides – from shopping, dining to leisure.”

Carluccio’s joins recently announced brands TGI Friday’s, Cosmo, Zizzi and Pizza Express within the 100,000 sq ft leisure development, which is currently under construction. A further four restaurants are to complete the dining offer.

Bruce Gillingham Pollard acted for Hammerson and Kelion Sworn represented Carluccio’s.
