Cabana, the fast-growing Brazilian concept led by Jamie Barber and David Ponte, plans to open double in size this year and will look to open its first site outside of the capital, after experiencing a strong start to the year.

Barber said that the group was “close on a few opportunities” regarding further openings in the capital and hoped to add one or two units outside over the next 18 months. Expansion for the foreseeable future will be financed by its current shareholder base.

He said that the group had had a good end to a “really good year” and that January had been very positive in terms of performance.

The brand will launch its first cookbook this May.

The group opened its biggest site, 5,000sq ft at the Designer Outlet Wembley last October.

Last summer summer, the company raised £3.5m of new funding, £2m through fundraising from existing shareholders, including Nick Leslau, and friends, plus a new £1.5m debt facility from HSBC.
