HP Bulmer, the cider maker, has announced a range of bonuses for its employees, to ease the transition to new owner Scottish & Newcastle.

Employees working in head office support functions, whose jobs are not guaranteed in the take-over, will receive one month's salary if they see the transition through.

Employees in operations and orcharding, who are not expected to be affected by the sale, will receive an annual bonus if budget targets are met.

HP Bulmer said: "The bonus payments are a positive gesture to acknowledge the continuing goodwill and commitment of people across the company in what we all recognise as difficult times for Bulmers.

"It is important for the long term future of the business here in Hereford that it is in good shape when it is handed over to Scottish and Newcastle."

The sale is expected to be completed by August.
