Barracuda Group is aiming for 30 Smith and Jones pubs, after the acquisition of 94 managed outlets last year in two separate transactions.

It will immediately convert 10 pubs to the format, taking the concept to 19 outlets by the end of April.

The first sites are the Ivy House, in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, the Old Bank in Sutton, Surrey and the Cock in Highbury, North London. Another seven will be converted from the company's existing pubs, including pubs in Northampton and Chiswick, West London.

Mark McQuater, Barracuda's chief executive, said the company would be able to move up quickly to 30 outlets.

Smith & Jones was acquired with the Ambishus Pub Company last year for £38m.
