London Union, the street food market operator, has had its licence to operate at Woolwich Indoor Market approved.

The Jonathan Downey and Henry Dimbleby-led operator will launch at the site on 1 March.

Downey told MCA last month that he and Dimbleby were looking at four or five major projects, which include London, regional and international sites, and a more classic food hall concept.

He said at the time that London Union would stay ahead of the curve as food halls begin to gain traction in the UK.

He added: “We set up London Union to create the nest food market in the world, that’s our raison d’etre.

“With our shareholder base, contacts and experience, we can do it better than anyone. There will be a real power to us doing that for London reputation’s as a food city around the world.”
