Second Cup, the Canadian coffee shop-meets-casual-dining chain, is to ramp up its presence in the UK over the next six months after securing five new sites in Greater London, M&C has learnt.

The company, which launched its third site in the UK in Birmingham this week, has also signed on a location in Cardiff, a second location in Manchester and hope to have something shortly agreed for Bristol.

Jim Ragas, president of Second Cup International, told M&C: “We are very excited about our growth plans for the UK and look forward additional regions coming on stream in the coming months.”

The company made its London debut earlier this summer.

The group, which has signed commitments to open 90 sites in the UK over the next five years, opened at 216 Portobello Road after making its UK debut in Manchester last year.

The brand is believed to have signed a partnership development deal with an unnamed Saudi Arabian company to eventually open 10 sites in central London.

Ragas said: “The UK market has always been a very sophisticated and vibrant coffee/café market with great local operators. Our strength is working very closely with local franchise partners to develop their individual regions and making sure we quickly respond to customer wants and behaviour.

“We pride ourselves on always putting the guest first and making sure we only serve the best. We believe there is a lot of room for growth in the UK market over the next five to 10 years.”

The group currently operates more than 600 sites globally.
