Business in Sport and Leisure (BISL), the strategic body representing the private sector in the leisure and sport industry, has welcomed the government’s support for apprenticeships, announced in its Spending Review.

Despite the overall budget of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills being cut, Chancellor George Osborne has pledged more money for apprenticeships.

BISL executive director Andy Sutch, said: “This is very encouraging news. We believe that investing in apprenticeships is of crucial importance to the leisure sector.

“Young people acquire important skills which help them gain experience in the sector and develop them towards management positions.

“Our members include JD Wetherspoon, Enterprise Inns and Novus Leisure and this news will be welcomed by them as well as many others in the leisure sector.”
