Like for like sales growth for the first 14 weeks of the year to the 4th of January was +2.6% (versus our H1 expectation of c.2.2%) with food +3.0% and Drink +1.8%. Implies growth of +3.5% in the most recent 7 weeks (Food +4% & Drink +2.7%). Total sales growth for the 14 weeks is +2.6%. The festive period showed good LFL sales growth of +5.6% over the three weeks, with +6.5% growth across the 5 key festive days.

Goodbody on Domino’s Q4 update
We believe investors will begin to focus more keenly on the health of the core UK and ROI business given DOM’s decision to exit its International markets. For H219 we forecast +3.0% LFL sales growth ex-splits, and +1% incl splits, in the key UK division. At the Q3 stage UK LFL ex-splits was +3.0% (+1.4% incl splits) so we essentially expect a continuation of trends, although we would note the comp is more difficult in Q4 so the group will need a good finish to the year.

NewsAsk fined £40,000 for lack of lobster
Ask has been fined £40,000 after selling a ‘misleading’ plate of pasta - although it got a discount off the bill for pleading guilty. The Italian chain, owned by parent company Azzurri, had been selling its £14.95 Aragosta e Gamberoni dish, described as lobster and king prawns in a tomato and chilli sauce, since 2014.

Revolution Bars has released a trading update for the 26 weeks ended 28 December 2019, and for the Christmas period, encompassing the four weeks to NYE. For the those four weeks, up to and including New Year’s Eve, sales were up 4% on last year. Weekly sales per venue averaged over £65,000. Total sales for the 26 week period were £81.2m, up 3.4% on the previous year.

NewsWadworth reports dip in profits but property revaluation delivers a £32m boost
A revaluation of its property portfolio has delivered a £32m boost to Wadworth after a challenging year which saw sales slip from £67.1m to £66.6m. Pre-tax profits were also down to £2.2m from £2.4m the previous year. However, given the challenging environment the business said it had been a “solid” year for the business, with operating profit up £462k on the year before.
