A new format with "hover" seating for fast eaters is expected to offset the decline in demand for "seated catering" at Greggs.

The take-away food retailer reported annual pre-tax profits up 22% to £26.4m on sales up 10% to £339m. An outlet in the Millennium Dome boosted the figures

It plans to increase the number of outlets from 1,105 to 1,700 by 2010 and it sees the potential for a maximum for 2,000 shops in the UK.

The company is researching mainland Europe for possible expansion.
