Yum! Brands has strengthened its links with forecourt giant EG Group with plans to open Pizza Hut units on petrol filling stations.

The franchise partnership will begin with eight pilot stores by the end of this year selling pizza by the slice and whole pizzas.

It builds on the two groups’ relationship operating KFC restaurants across the fuel estate.

The first EG Group-operated store is scheduled to open in Hartlepool “in the coming weeks”.

The deal will help Pizza Hut Delivery further adapt towards the convenience market in line with customer demand.

The sites will offer five classic flavours including Margherita, Pepperoni, Supreme, Meat Feast, and Veggie Supreme, and newer arrival, the Beyond Meat Supreme and vegetarian options.

Neil Manhas, general manager at Pizza Hut Delivery in the UK, said EG Group had “a wealth of experience” in forecourt retail, in operating food service. EG’s “expertise as a global leader in this specific type of retail” made it the ideal partner.

“This partnership demonstrates our commitment to adapting to customer demand by expanding our offerings,” he said.

Mohammed Tayab, food & beverage director - Europe at EG Group, said he looked forward to piloting the pizza-by-the- slice proposition and making it “a resounding success”.

EG Group is owned by the Issa brothers, who bought Leon earlier this year for a reported £100m.
