Wahaca, the Mexican street food restaurant concept owned by Thomasina Miers and Mark Selby, has secured two new sites in London, M&C Report has learnt.

The eight-strong group, which saw turnover reach £14.5m in the year to 24 June up from £10.2m, is understood to have secured a site in Upper Street, Islington, and the basement unit of the Waterloo Bar & Grill opposite Waterloo station. Gourmet Burger Kitchen is set to take the group floor of the Waterloo site.

The company is also set to close its Covent Garden site, which opened five years ago and has accommodated over 1.5 million customers, for a short period for a refurbishment. The refresh will see a street artist brought into the site to work on upgrading its décor.

The chain, which hopes to grow to 15-20 sites over the next few years, opened in Charlotte Street and on London’s Southbank last year.

Shelley Sandzer acted on the Islington deal.
