Subway, the global sandwich chain, is trialling a new format at a handful of its sites in the UK, which if successful could be rolled out further across its c.1,500-strong estate in the UK & Ireland, M&C Report has learnt. Franchisee Eat Fresh Ltd, which operates five Subway sites in the West Midlands, is one of the first to trial the refreshed look that reportedly has a more relaxed, coffee lounge feel than the current format and includes refreshed decor. It is trialling the format at its recently launched Subway “eat fresh” in Birmingham’s Newhall Street. Eat Fresh Ltd, which is part of Bon Wolfe, the property company, also owns the UK rights to the Asha’s Restaurant in Birmingham that was previously owned by Regent Inns. It plans to take its estate of Subway sites to 10 by the end of the year.
