Subway, the sandwich chain, plans to add 150 sites in India by the end of next year, as it targets operating 1,000 stores in the country by the end of 2017. The group, which currently operates 300 sites in the country, is planning to increase its focus on smaller Indian cities in the coming year. It opened its 300th site last week in Mumbai airport. Robby Gulri, Subway India's area development manager, said: “With a presence now in more than 50 cities, Subway will focus on tier-two and tier-three cities and achieve its target of operating 1,000 outlets in India in five years, including 450 by 2013-end. The success of this model highlights the growing spirit of entrepreneurship in the country.”
