Fred DeLuca – founder of Subway – has won an award at the British Sandwich Industry Awards. DeLuca was crowned king of sandwiches for his contribution to the development, growth and prosperity of the British sandwich industry. The Subway chain was started by DeLuca in Connecticut in 1965 and has 29,000 outlets across 86 countries. The award comes after it was revealed Subway had broken the record with its £300m sales in the UK
