German chopped salad concept Salaid is looking to launch in the UK through a franchise operation, MCA understands.

The Berlin-based business is backed by Scottish business group Hero Brands – the team behind German Doner Kebab (GDK) – which is owned by the Sarwar family.

Salaid was founded by MD Nikras Agha (co-founder and CEO), Bijan Azadfard, (co-founder and COO) Kamshad Abbas Zadeh (founder and board member and European CEO of GDK), and opened its first site in October 2016.

The menu includes a variety of suggested chopped salad combinations or customers can create their own with 50 ingredients to choose from.

The business said it is keen to offer something different on the high street and that offers decent options for vegetarians and vegans. It is looking for A1 sites of between 800- 1,400 sq ft.

Hero Brand’s UK management team has recently been expanded with a number of new appointments and is led by Athif Sarwar, chairman of the Hero Brands board, Imran R Sayeed, group CEO, Jon Cullen, group franchise director global, and Suzie McCafferty, international development

The Sarwar’s £230m business empire encompasses a chain of pubs and restaurants, a wholesale cash and carry business and more than 500 franchised convenience stores.
