Famous Brands has announced interim results for the six months ended 31 August 2023, with a 10% rise in total revenue to R3.9bn (£168m).

The South Africa-based owner of the Wimpy burger chain reported R83m (£3.5m) in UK revenue, an 18% rise from the R71m (£3m) reportedin the six months to August 2022.

Operating profit also improved to R10m (£431,000) from a loss of R20m (£862,000) the prior comparative period.

According to the results, lower consumer confidence impacted spending in the UK, leading to stable sit-down sales despite lower delivery sales.

Famous Brands further reported signs of inflation easing in the UK and positive growth in sterling sales.

During the period, it opened one UK restaurant and closed one.
