Carlsberg may claim to be “probably the best beer in the world”, but apparently its glass is only half-full. If its strategy to go “beyond beer” hits the spot, it could also soon become one of Britain’s biggest soft drinks groups, too.

On the face of it, the Danish brewer’s audacious (and so far rejected) £3.1 billion offer for Britvic looks a little left-field. Do the likes of Fruit Shoot, Tango and R White’s lemonade really sit comfortably alongside a vast beer cellar that includes Mythos, Kronenbourg and, of course, the Carlsberg range? It turns out the answer is “yes”.
