Quiz the Nation, the national pub quiz that will be hosted by Krypton Factor host Gordon Burns, reached its fundraising target of £195k in 14 days through the CrowdCube platform.

The  money has been raised for 19.6% equity share in the show  from 98 investors in the two weeks since it was launched. The company is now looking to over-fund the project to bring the show to pub operators quicker and grow the business.

The largest individual investment of £50k came from Bill Holroyd who said: “I am absolutely passionate about the industry and I am delighted to be supporting this new venture, which I see as a great way to give something back to the pub sector. Quiz the Nation is a win-win offering for pubs: costs them nothing and has the power to dramatically increase footfall and revenue on Sunday evenings – traditionally a quiet night.”

The chairman of Quiz the Nation, Rod McMillan, said the project should go live with UK pub operators later this month.

The show will be completely free of charge to pubs and aims to boost revenue, footfall and profits for pub operators on Sunday nights from October 2014, through Sky Channel 254.

The interactive quiz allows players to play by themselves or in a team in the same pub, as well as nationally across the country to win a top prize of £1,000 and  other weekly cash prizes.

Players download the Quiz the Nation app onto their smart phone or tablet and pay a £2 entry fee and then watch the quiz from the pub TV.
