A former council highways depot in west Wales could be redeveloped into a brewery by Simon Buckley, the founder of the Tomos Watkin brewery.

The brewery in Llandeilo, which will also incorporate a visitor centre, will produce traditional cask ales.

Planning application for the town-centre site has been submitted to Carmathenshire Council.

The site is to be developed in three phases, the first being the construction of the brewery and the second and third the visitor centre and a pub.

Buckley is a descendant of the family that established the Buckley brewery in Llanelli, later bought by Cardiff's Brain's brewery. Buckley tried to buy back the brewery in 2000, but instead he helped relocate the Tomos Watkin brewery to Swansea.
