Diageo has withdrawn legal proceedings against J Sainsbury's after the supermarket chain has agreed to change the label on its Pitchers gin-based drinks brand. The announcement comes after the drinks company issued an intellectual property objection against Sainsbury's in mid-August for copyright infringement of its Pimms brand. The companies said that a settlement had now been reached after Sainsbury's agreed to introduce its logo to the label and modify some of the colouring to differentiate it from Pimms. In a joint statement, the companies said: “Diageo and Sainsbury’s are pleased to confirm that the dispute regarding Diageo’s Pimm’s brand and Sainsbury’s Pitchers brand has been amicably settled and the legal proceedings withdrawn. “Sainsbury’s will continue to sell the Pitchers brand, but with a modified label that both parties are happy with.”
