Darwin & Wallace, the Imbiba-backed bar and restaurant group, has secured its fourth site after acquiring the All Bar One in Chiswick from Mitchells & Butlers (M&B), M&C has learnt.

The Mel Marriott-led group, which earlier this summer took the lease for The Lot on Richmond’s Duke Street from M&B, is also thought to be close to securing a site in Battersea and has sites in Wimbledon, Old Street and Victoria in its pipeline.

On the Chiswick sale, an M&B spokesperson said: “We continually review out estate and from time to time make the decision to sell businesses or explore alternative opportunities for the site locations to ensure we continue to drive shareholder value.”

Darwin & Wallace will re-open the Richmond site this November.

Earlier this summer, Marriott told M&C she is targeting six to seven sites in the short term with the initial focus on London, but said she would consider regional sites.

It is thought that the group has further sites in Hammersmith, Islington, the West End, The City and Leeds in a secondary pipeline.

Marriott said: “The important thing about Darwin & Wallace is that each of the sites has its own character. You see that in the difference in the sales mix and the times of day that people come. In Richmond there will definitely be a weekend trade there but there is also a really lovely business community.”

Paul Tallentyre at Davis Coffer Lyons is believed to have acted on the Chiswick deal.
