Chicken Town, a healthier approach to fried chicken, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to open its first restaurant in north London in September in a disused firestation on Tottenham Green.
The not-for-profit restaurant will serve chicken that has been steamed before being lightly fried as an alternative to the heavier version available in many fast-food outlets in the area to encourage healthier eating.
Hadrian Garrard, a director at public art spaces project Create London is opening the restaurant with Ben Rymer after securing initial funding from Haringey Council and the Mayor of London’s High Street Fund. The duo are looking to raise £50,000 through the crowd funding platform to fit out the restaurant.
Rymer and Garrard are opening the restaurant as a social enterprise project to serve healthier meal to the community with meals available for children at £2 and family meal deals during the day. In the evening it will serve craft beers with the fast casual food.
