Deliveroo, the fast-growing delivery platform, has begun a trial with BrewDog to deliver its beer from a select number of the operator’s bars in London, M&C has learnt.

It is understood that the trial is so far running through BrewDog’s sites in Shoreditch, Clapham and Clerkenwell, with consumers able to order single cans and bottles, plus four packs of the bar operator’s own-brand beers.

It is thought that the trial could be the first step in Deliveroo making a bigger move into delivering alcohol from a number of wet-led businesses.

In December, AB InBev and Deliveroo teamed up to launch the Beer Bicycle, an online delivery service in which customers in central London can get chilled beer delivered to their doorstep in just 15 minutes.

The beer company predicted that one million households would buy beer online in December, 200,000 more than in 2014.

Will Shu, co-founder and chief executive of Deliveroo, said: “We’ve seen incredible demand for top-quality food delivered to homes and offices, and think beer is a natural extension of our service. With the rise in popularity of online beer sales this Christmas, we feel this is the perfect time to launch this new project.”

Last summer, the London-based online delivery platform, raised a further $100m (£66m) from a group of venture capital funds including Facebook investors Accel and DST Global to fuel its international expansion.

It is Deliveroo’s fourth round of investment in two years, with $200m raised in total so far.

Will Shu, chief executive, said the investment would fuel the company’s expansion to Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Melbourne and Sydney.

Earlier this week, it launched in Belfast.
