Robin Rowland, chief executive of YO! Sushi, has joined the board of Caffe Nero, the c.470-strong coffee chain, as a non-executive director, M&C Report understands. Rowland, who has been chief executive at YO! for 12 years, has also been a non-executive director at brewer and pub operator Marston’s since 2010. Caffe Nero, which is led by founder Gerry Ford, plans to open approximately 50 sites over the next year. Last October, the company reiterated that it believed there was potential in the UK market for at least 600 Caffe Nero stores. It expanded into Turkey in 2007 and the Middle East in 2009 and is currently reviewing other international opportunities. YO! currently operates c.65 company-owned restaurants in the UK, as well as 12 franchised sushi bars in Ireland, Norway, Portugal and the Middle East. It will make its debut in the US in Washington DC later this year.
