Tim Hortons, the Canadian coffee chain, which has expanded rapidly in Scotland and the North West, is set to make its debut in the Midlands, in Birmingham, MCA understands.

The group, which made its debut in the UK last June, is believed to have secured the former TUI unit in the city’s New Street for an opening later this year.

The company, which operates c5,000 sites worldwide, currently operates 17 sites in the UK, including six in the North West, eight in Scotland and one in Northern Island.

In June, it closed one of its three Cardiff stores six months after opening, saying it was too close to others in the Welsh capital.

The coffee shop was on Working Street, The Hayes, opening in December 2017, and the second Tim Hortons store to open in Cardiff following the first on Queen Street.

The brand has a further site on Albany Road.
