The Gentlemen Baristas are planning to double their estate next year, to 12 sites in London, before expanding outside the capital to university towns.

The ‘fifth-wave’ coffee chain - boutique but at scale - currently has four sites in London and will be opening two further sites in the capital in October. It then plans to add another six in London next year, with several sites lined up already.

Henry Ayers, director at The Gentlemen Baristas told MCA that it would be opening sites at The O2, as part of a new retail and leisure space, and in East India Dock, as part of the Republic development project, next month.

Myer said its O2 site would also mark a change in its business operating hours as it would be open from 7am to 10pm.

Speaking at the Lunch show yesterday, Myers said the business was looking to expand outside the capital and into university towns such as Exeter, Bristol and Manchester in a few years’ time.

“In year five, if not sooner, we will start trying to look at some of those cities,” he said.

Yummy Pub Company invested in the fledging coffee chain in summer 2014, with The Gentlemen Baristas opening its first site on Union Street, in Southwark later that year.

It has since opened sites at The Building Centre in Bloomsbury, The School House based at Jerwood Space, and Park Street, near Borough Market.
