Söderberg, the Swedish-inspired, Edinburgh based café-bakery group, is opening its debut London site in Soho.

Launching on the former Vital Ingredient site at 36 Berwick Street, the 1,800 sq ft unit will serve Danish smörrebröd open sandwiches, bread and pastry, as well kardemummabulle cardamom buns and kladdkaka chocolate cake.

The café will also provide sit-in brunch and takeaway breakfast and lunch options as well as Johan & Nyström coffee roasted in Sweden, Scandi-inspired cocktails, natural wines and craft beer.

The Åsa Penman-led concept was founded in Edinbrough where it has seven sites, which operate under Savour Café Ltd.

She said: “Berwick Street’s varied and cutting-edge shops, including the wonderful neighbouring Swedish fashion businesses, Nudie Jeans and Sandqvist, makes it the perfect setting for our first London Söderberg café. The mix of traditional and contemporary, the attention to detail and design and the people focused vibe, align perfectly with our offer and style. We can’t wait to open our doors to Soho!”

Julia Wilkinson, group restaurant strategy executive at landlord Shaftesbury, said: “Söderberg’s contemporary take on traditional Swedish baking and hospitality is an exciting new addition to Soho’s diverse and vibrant food and beverage offering, including hotspots Temper, Kricket, and the award-winning Kiln, providing a unique and memorable dining and leisure experience for visitors.”

Emma Flather, of Hanover Green Retail, acted on the deal.
