Starbucks is planning a move into Latin America, taking on a region with a strong tradition of coffee drinking.

"As we plan to announce our entry into Latin America, our goal is to bring the Starbucks experience to at least two Latin American markets by the end of fiscal 2002," said Peter Maslen, president of Starbucks Coffee International.

The company said it is actively pursuing opportunities in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico and Venezuela to add to its 5,000 sites across the rest of the world.
