Takeaway milkshake concept Shakeaway is on track to have 50 sites open by the end of its financial year – in January 2016 – and has an additional nine franchisees lined up to open in 2016, M&C understands.
Internationally Shakeaway is preparing to open next year in the Philippines, Lebanon, Qatar, South Africa, East Timor, Jordan, UAE, Poland, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and continued expansion in the US.
The majority of the new venues will be operated under franchise, with less of a focus on company owned units.
Rachel Atkins, marketing manager for the group said: “Without any real above the line advertising the brand appeal is so strong that franchise applications have been received from more than 100 countries at a rate of more than 400 every month.”
In spring next year Shakeaway will re-launch its menu including its shakes, smoothies, yoghurt re-invented and low-fat crispy fries. It will add around 45 new flavours and ingredients to its range as well as extending its health-focused section with a choice of lower calorie ingredients.
One new option is shaved ice based on a special flaked ice produced in store that stays cold and crunchy with 100% real fruit flavouring and topped with real fresh fruit. The group has said the 160-calorie shaved ice will be trialled in the UK and internationally in four weeks.
