Muffin Break, the Australian bakery cafe chain owned by Foodco, has opened its first café bakery in a retail park location at the Arnison Shopping Park in Durham.

The 1500sq ft unit, which seats 80 customers, is a step change from Muffin Break’s traditional space in shopping centres across the UK. There are currently 53 Muffin Break locations serving breakfast, lunch and snacks from an onsite bakery and coffees.

Last year Michael Arbuckle, managing director at Muffin Break told M&C Report the company plans to open 14 stores in 2015-16 and is interested in targeting Liverpool, Manchester and increasing its presence in Scotland.

The newest location is operated under a franchise agreement with franchisee Rahim Hinkin who said: “There is a fantastic mix of “high street” retailers at the Arnison Shopping Park, and we are excited about our new venture in to retail parks. We are looking forward to providing Arnison shoppers something a little different for breakfast, lunch or snacking whilst shopping at the park. We hope our wide variety of quiches, sandwiches, cakes and of course the muffins we are famous for, will entice customers to visit us again and again.”

The Arnison Shopping Park is a large out of town shopping destination owned by CBRE Global Investors.
