Bakery café Muffin Break is opening its second Welsh store today in Newport as it accelerates its opening schedule with several more units due to open before the end of its financial year.

Lisa Brook, who was appointed as UK general manager of FoodCo, earlier this year told M&C there is no limit to the number of Muffin Breaks that could open, with hospitals being a focus for 2016.

Its newest store - at the Friars Walk Shopping Centre development in Newport - has seating for 82 as well as a grab-and-go counter.

Brook said: “We are delighted to be opening a store in this exciting new development in Newport - it is yet another example of our drive for growth for the brand. Muffin Break continues to deliver significant growth, even through tough periods for retail, and we have several new stores due to open before the end of the financial year - including two in December. 2016 will definitely be an exciting year for us.”

Muffin Break is expected to open 16 stores – mostly under franchise agreement - including its first units in Manchester, Liverpool and developing its presence in Scotland.

Brook told M&C she wants to increase Muffin Break’s brand awareness as it has remained too much of a “well-kept secret”.

She said the group has previously not highlighted the fact it bakes all its produce on-site each day and has growing choice of gluten-, dairy-free and low calorie products on the menu.
