Marc Patisserie, the newly launched chocolatier and patisserie from Michelin-starred MARC Group, plans to expand in high end locations across London, M&C has learnt.
The first Marc Patisserie opened this month as a concession within London’s Selfridges as a blueprint for the brand.
Restauranteur and chairman of MARC Group Marlon Abela told M&C he would “undoubtedly do more” and believes there is potential for five or six of the patisseries in London.
Open to both standalone or concessionary sites, the MARC Group is actively looking for locations in Mayfair, South Kensington and Knightsbridge.
Abela said the location will be very much driven by the area and the demographics to suite the high-end brand but could open the second site in six months time.
He said the success of the brand is in part thanks to the quality of its macaroons made at it London studio each day.
“To be very blunt, there’s a lot of volume in London when it comes to bakeries and patisseries but no real quality: it’s all mid-market with most of the macaroons on the shelves in London imported and frozen,” Abela said. “We can assure the quality by making everything in our own workshop.
“The market has grown at a very high rate but has stagnated on the very high end,” he added.
Abela said there is potential for Marc Patisserie to work away from the capital but due to the issue of quality and freshness it would be dependent on supplying sites from the London workshop.
“We want to keep it exclusive but London is a big place and a booming place – Paris has high quality patisseries on every corner so I see no reason why we couldn’t do five or six in London.”
The MARC group operates a Michelin-starred restaurant collection including The Greenhouse and Umu in London, both with two stars.
Abela said he is keen to add another London restaurant and believes his high-end Italian concept in New York called A Voce would be well-suited to the city when the right site can be acquired.
