Le Pain Quotidien, the all-day bakery and cafe concept, has promoted operations director Peter Jenkins to managing director of its UK operation, M&C Report has learnt.

Jenkins, who has 20 years’ experience in operations in both the food and the fashion sectors, joined the 25-strong group last April.

He has worked with a number of well-known brands with reputations for excellent customer service, including Gant, Selfridges, and Prêt A Manger.

His promotion comes as the business has seen sales since the start of the year climb on the same period in 2014, which Jenkins described as “encouraging” especially as the group had a good March last year.

Turnover in the year to 28 December rose 10.6% to c£34m after established stores improved their sales performance, while pre-tax profit fell from £803k to £313k.

Last year, the group, which launched in the UK in 2006, hired Jones Lang Lasalle to advise on its expansion into the regions. It is thought it is looking to add another 15 to 20 in the UK in the coming three years.

The company currently operates more than 200 locations worldwide in 17 countries.
