Kamps, one of the leading bakery and café chains in Germany, plans to reach 10 UK sites over the next three years before a possible expansion outside London, M&C Report’s sister title British Baker reports.

The group, which operates c550 sites across Germany, opened its first UK Kamps Bäckerei Cafés at 154/5 Tottenham Court Road in November and subsequently opened second at Kensington Arcade.

Jennifer Heise, area manager of the UK branches, told British Baker: “Right now we have two shops and our focus is on them, continuing to produce quality goods, building the brand and getting things right. The long-term goal over the next three years is to open around 10 London branches and after that we may look to expand to outside of London, but our focus is very much on the two stores we have now and getting that right.”

She added: “London was chosen as the first location outside of Germany because London is an ideal busy location for the stores and offers something different to Italy and France.

“Our products bring something a bit different to the high-street. They are not just baked fresh in store in the morning, but they are also baked throughout the day and there is a unique range in our products with fresh loaves, sourdoughs, pastries and a line of fresh healthy products too.”
