Glendola Leisure is to launch a second iteration of its Gordon Street Coffee concept, MCA has learnt.
The second roastery and coffee shop will open within sister company Carlton Hotel’s new 97 bedroom hotel in Market Street, Edinburgh.
The site is currently under construction with the hotel due to open in the third week of January next year, and the coffee roastery to open on the ground floor of the site at around the same time, Alex Salussolia, managing director, Glendola Leisure told MCA.
He said the business was looking at a number of other opportunities, including expanding its Alston Bar & Beef concept, which it currently operates in Glasgow and Manchester, “when we find the right sites at the right prices”, which he said was a challenge at the moment.
Salussolia said food and beverage sales within its UK business had slowed over the summer, as many of its city centre landlocked sites saw a flattening in revenue in the extended period of summer weather.
“Over the past few weeks we’ve been back in positive territory again,” he said, but added that although the business was performing well, when it came to consumer spending he felt “consumers are a little bit nervous at the moment, if I’m honest”.
