Maison Blanc, the 14-strong patisserie chain founded by Raymond Blanc, has reported a decline in full year turnover, but saw its pre-tax loss narrow from £3.2m to £2.3m as it continued to upgrade its existing estate.

The group, which launched a new design format at its store in Chichester last year, saw turnover for the year to 31 December 2012 fall 8% from £11.9m to £11.05m, while operating loss narrowed from £2.9m to £2.5m.

The group, which is owned by the Kout Food Group, said that the decline in turnover reflected the impact of difficult trading conditions during the recessionary period.

It said: “However, with substantial improvement in cost control, operating losses reduced by £404k compared to the prior year.”
